PLANNING SAFE HARBOR FROM FIRE

In the event of blocked exits....

A wild fire can move very quickly; it is a real possibility that Oak Meadow or Southview could be blocked directly by fire or by a downed tree.  It is critical that all residents have created plans in advance for how they might respond.

     *    Open areas for shelter - consider moving to swimming pools, open spaces/fields, vineyards

     *    Alternative routes  - a Firewise principle is to have "2 routes" out of a neighborhood, so consider working with neighbors to create access across their property to other roads outside Rancho del Sol

In the event that evacuation is not possible (and it is always the FIRST CHOICE) and the Lower Oak Canyon road is blocked a secondary exit route has been established across the Loewy property.

An evacuation sign is located at the entrance to their driveway at #1 Oak Meadow Lane.

See map below for instructions.

In the event that evacuation is not possible (It is always the FIRST CHOICE YOU SHOULD MAKE) and access to either the the primary route out of Oak Meadow Lane or across the Loewy property is not available there are several options available to residents of Upper Oak Meadow Lane.

1). Our local Fire Department has stated that if your house is built of fire resistant materials and you have followed Firewise practices of creating a defensible space around your home that you can shelter in place within your home.

2). After consulting with our local Fire Department on the feasibility, you can make a decision to move to the top of Oak Meadow Lane to the area surrounding the CalAm water tanks (near the Hoch-Tschirgi orchard).  Access also has been made available to the higher vineyards if needed.
